Shopify merchants can now sell their items to Target’s extensive customer base through a new partnership. Announced on Monday, June 24, this collaboration allows sellers on Shopify’s platform to apply for Target Plus, Target’s third-party marketplace where merchants can list and manage orders.
Target is the first major retailer to partner with Shopify, bringing its merchants’ products into physical stores. The initial Shopify sellers featured at Target include brands like True Classic and Caden Lane.
Launched in 2019, Target Plus aims to introduce consumers to new products from third-party retailers such as Crocs, Maui Jim, Timberland, and Ruggable. Despite this, Target’s marketplace lags behind competitors like Amazon, eBay, and Walmart. With only 1,200 sellers on Target Plus compared to Amazon’s nearly 2 million and Walmart’s 135,000, the partnership with Shopify is a strategic move to expand its third-party marketplace.
This partnership comes after Target reported a 3.7% decline in comparable sales for the fourth consecutive quarter. Additionally, Target’s overall sales dropped by 3.2% in the first quarter of 2024.
