Tesla has recalled 1.8 million vehicles across the United States due to a risk of detached hoods, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall affects select Model 3, Model S, and Model X vehicles from 2021 to 2024, as well as Model Y vehicles from 2020 to 2024.
The issue centers around a software failure that prevents proper notification of a detached hood, which could potentially obstruct the driver’s view if the hood detaches while driving. Tesla has responded by issuing an over-the-air software update to address the problem.
This recall adds to a series of recalls Tesla has issued this year. In January, the company recalled 200,000 vehicles due to a malfunctioning backup camera. February saw a recall of two million vehicles due to insufficiently visible warning light text. In May, Tesla recalled 125,000 vehicles over seatbelt issues, and June brought a recall of 12,000 Cybertrucks due to problems with windshield wipers and trim.
