New Acura EV Concept Blends Crossover SUV and Sportback Design

Acura has unveiled a new EV concept at Monterey Car Week, showcasing a crossover SUV with a distinctively aggressive design. The Acura Performance EV concept features a boat-like front end, reminiscent of the 2022 Precision EV concept, paired with a sportback-style rear. Built on an all-new electric vehicle platform developed by Honda, this concept previews an upcoming production model set to be manufactured next year at Honda’s new EV hub in Ohio. This platform also underpins Acura’s ZDX, currently the brand’s only EV on the market, built on GM’s Ultium platform.

At a media event, Honda’s global executive VP, Shinji Aoyama, hinted at future developments, including an “NSX-type” electric sports car expected around 2027 or 2028. The Acura Performance EV concept emphasizes a “powerful, athletic stance” with a long wheelbase, robust wheel arches, and 23-inch rims designed to convey movement even when stationary. The side profile draws comparisons to the Mustang Mach-E but with a genuine sport hatch design. The front end features aggressive hood and side vents and sharply angled headlights, contributing to an overall intense aesthetic.

Additionally, Honda is working on a new EV series called Honda Zero, which includes a sloping-shaped EV concept and a larger “Space-Hub” concept.
