AI personal assistant startup Ollie will shut down on November 6, 2026, just two months after announcing a $7.5 million seed funding round led by Khosla Ventures. The company, which focused on privacy and household organization, cited increasing competition and difficulties securing additional funding as reasons for its closure.
Ollie co-founder and CEO Bill Lennon announced the shutdown on X on October 30, saying the startup had struggled to compete with newer AI assistants entering the market. He acknowledged that the company had made progress but was unable to maintain the growth and financial support needed to continue operating.
Ollie Built a Privacy-Focused AI Assistant for Families
Ollie offered a subscription-based AI assistant designed to help families manage daily responsibilities and coordinate household activities. The app connected to users’ email accounts and calendars while providing tools for appointment bookings, meal planning, bill payments, and family scheduling.
The company also planned to introduce household budgeting features as part of its product development. Its approach focused on combining everyday administrative tasks within a single assistant while maintaining controls over users’ personal information.
Ollie was among the early consumer AI assistant applications to achieve SOC 2 compliance through an independent audit. The security framework evaluates how organizations protect customer data and manage controls related to security, availability, and confidentiality.
Competition and Funding Challenges Lead to Shutdown
Ollie announced a $7.5 million seed funding round led by Khosla Ventures in September 2026, approximately two months before its planned closure. Despite securing the investment, Lennon said the company struggled to differentiate its product, attract users, and raise the additional capital needed to continue operations.
Lennon specifically identified competing AI assistants Muse and Instinct as contributing to those difficulties. Both companies entered the personal assistant market as advances in AI models made it possible to automate more everyday tasks.
Ollie Customers to Receive Data Export and Refund Instructions
Lennon said existing customers would receive instructions on exporting their information before the November 6 shutdown. The company also plans to provide details about subscription refunds, although specific refund arrangements were not disclosed in the announcement.
The CEO thanked Ollie’s employees, customers, investors, and supporters for their contributions to the company. He said the small team had developed the product and gained experience despite being unable to sustain the business.
