Curatola Masonry announced a significant business milestone today, reporting that an operation founded by Justin Curatola with $50 has developed into a multi million dollar company. According to Curatola, the business reached this stage without venture capital, private equity, outside investors, or business loans.

The milestone reflects a growth strategy centered on reinvesting revenue into equipment, personnel, technology, training, and operational systems. The company reports that its trucks, trailers, specialized equipment, and other major assets were purchased through operating revenue and are owned outright.
Curatola Masonry operates alongside The Curatola Group, providing structural masonry, historic restoration, waterproofing, concrete rehabilitation, forensic investigations, building envelope repair, engineering informed restoration, and construction management services throughout Ohio.
A Company Built Through Reinvestment
Curatola entered the masonry industry without an established network of contractors, investors, or financial backers. Instead of pursuing rapid expansion through borrowed capital, he focused on developing the company one project at a time and directing revenue back into its operations.
Early earnings were used to acquire tools and equipment, improve project capabilities, and create systems that could support larger and more technically demanding assignments. As the companies expanded, reinvestment continued in employee development, specialized machinery, project management technology, and operational infrastructure.
For Curatola, this approach was intended to preserve control over business decisions while creating a stable financial foundation.
“We have never wanted someone else deciding the future of our company,” Curatola said. “We built it ourselves, and we have grown it ourselves.”
The company’s financial model also influenced how projects were selected. Rather than pursuing volume alone, Curatola focused on work that aligned with the organizations’ technical capabilities and standards. That approach supported expansion into structural repair, historic preservation, forensic investigation, waterproofing, and complex building envelope work.
Experience Across Operations and Construction
Before founding his companies, Curatola developed experience in maintenance operations, facility engineering, and complex project coordination. His professional background includes helping build Tesla’s maintenance department during a period of rapid expansion.
Curatola was also involved in developing the first three mobile Uber Driver Lounges, which were designed to provide support facilities for rideshare drivers in major markets. The projects required coordination across operations, construction, logistics, and mobile infrastructure.
According to Curatola, those assignments reinforced principles that would later guide his own companies. These included identifying operational problems, studying the systems behind them, coordinating qualified teams, and creating solutions that could be implemented consistently.
The same principles now inform the companies’ approach to construction and restoration. Whether a project involves a commercial facility, historic church, municipal property, hospital, educational campus, courthouse, or residential estate, the process begins by examining the underlying cause of visible deterioration.
Cracking, movement, water intrusion, and masonry failure may indicate broader structural or building envelope concerns. Curatola Masonry evaluates these conditions to help determine whether a repair should address an isolated symptom or a larger performance issue.
Removing the Excuses
When Curatola started the masonry business, he made a personal decision to grow his hair and beard. The choice was not intended as a branding strategy. He viewed it as an experiment designed to remove assumptions about appearance, business connections, or financial backing.
“I wanted to remove every excuse,” Curatola said. “I did not want people to think I succeeded because I looked the part, knew the right people, or had money behind me. I wanted the work to speak louder than anything else.”
At the time, Curatola had limited connections within the masonry industry. He relied on his experience in construction, facility operations, engineering informed planning, and project execution while learning the technical and commercial requirements of the trade.
That experience contributed to a management philosophy focused on continuous learning, repeatable systems, qualified personnel, consistent execution, and professional integrity. Curatola applies those principles across both organizations, regardless of a project’s size or sector.
Expanding Technical Construction Capabilities
Curatola Masonry and The Curatola Group now work across several related areas of construction. Their services include commercial masonry, chimney reconstruction, concrete rehabilitation, waterproofing, historic preservation, structural repair, building envelope services, and the management of complex property improvements.
The companies also undertake projects involving older masonry structures, including buildings that have been in service for more than 150 years. This work can require an understanding of traditional materials, historic construction methods, moisture movement, structural behavior, and modern performance requirements.
Forensic investigations are another part of the companies’ work. These assessments examine how and why a building component has deteriorated before a repair plan is developed. The objective is to identify contributing conditions and support solutions based on the needs of the individual structure.

Curatola said the ability to move between industries and project types comes from treating each assignment as a system that must be understood. The process includes gathering information, identifying the root cause, selecting appropriate materials and methods, and coordinating execution.
A Milestone Focused on Long Term Operations
While the multi million dollar growth milestone reflects the companies’ commercial progress, Curatola said revenue is only one measure of their development. He also considers the creation of skilled trade careers, preservation of historic properties, investment in employees, and completion of technically challenging projects to be important parts of the organizations’ progress.
The companies plan to continue expanding their technical capabilities while maintaining their focus on controlled growth and reinvestment. Curatola also intends to support greater awareness of skilled trades as a practical career path for people interested in construction, preservation, engineering, and hands on problem solving.
The milestone illustrates how Curatola has applied a consistent operating philosophy across maintenance, infrastructure, construction, and masonry. His approach emphasizes learning, disciplined investment, operational independence, and measurable project results.
