The British Virgin Islands have grown from bareboat waters into one of the Caribbean’s true luxury charter destinations, reports My BVI Charter, and the large crewed catamarans and motor yachts arriving from the Mediterranean and the Bahamas will make winter 2026-2027 the strongest season the territory has offered.
ROAD TOWN, British Virgin Islands, July 27, 2026 – Guests stepping aboard in the British Virgin Islands this winter will notice what returning visitors have watched build for years: the fleet has grown up. Waters once defined by bareboats and small owner-run catamarans are now home to large crewed catamarans running three, four, and increasingly five crew, and motor yachts with larger teams still, all delivering superyacht service. The territory’s appeal was never the question. Some sixty islands sit within sight of one another, the sailing is short and calm across protected water, and a charter can anchor somewhere new every day without a single long passage. What has changed is the yacht doing the anchoring. Encore, a brand-new Sunreef 60 for eight guests, began chartering this season and was heavily booked before most clients had heard her name. More are on the way. At this year’s Mediterranean charter shows, including Sanremo, the company’s team heard the same plan from many of the yachts they visited: a Caribbean winter. Among them was Seawolf X, the 43-meter Rossinavi catamaran that follows her Mediterranean summers with Caribbean charter seasons. Large catamarans cross the Atlantic comfortably on their own hulls, so instead of sitting idle through the European winter they sail west, bringing Mediterranean-trained crews and real scale with them.
The motor yacht side is deepening the same way. Several yachts the company tracks because clients love them elsewhere are repositioning for the winter, especially from the Bahamas, drawn by protected cruising grounds, straightforward logistics, and authorities that keep investing in the marine sector, from marina development to the airport runway extension now moving ahead. The result is the broadest selection of crewed motor yachts for charter in the BVI the company has offered.
“The fleet here gets more impressive every season, and the scale now matches the setting,” said John Boullin, Yacht Charter Broker at DMA Yachting. “A client of mine stepped off one of our regular catamarans a few days ago and told me it was hard to describe how amazing the week was. That is what a proper crew does. The new catamarans arrive with four or five crew where two used to be the norm, the really big catamarans are finally here, and the best of them take bookings before they even reach the charter show. We track every arrival, so when a client gives us their dates, we already know which yachts deserve their week.”
A bigger crew changes the shape of a day on board. Breakfast comes off a proper galley while the crew rigs the paddleboards, cabins are refreshed while guests are ashore at The Baths or on White Bay, and dinner arrives at restaurant standard without anyone leaving the deck. It is the difference between renting a boat and taking a vacation that happens to float.
