Music Lessons with Troy has announced the launch of Fingerstyle Fast Track, an online guitar course designed to help self-taught guitar players build the skills needed to advance their fingerpicking technique through a guided, step-by-step learning system.

Created by guitar teacher Troy Serson, the course was developed from more than 14 years of experience teaching guitar, bass, and ukulele to students ranging from young beginners to adult learners. Serson’s teaching approach focuses on helping students build confidence, understand musical concepts clearly, and develop their own musical identity through the styles and songs that inspire them.

Fingerstyle Fast Track was created for guitarists who want a more organized path toward improving their fingerpicking abilities. The course provides a five-level roadmap designed to guide learners through foundational techniques and progressive skills, helping students develop toward intermediate fingerstyle playing in as little as 90 days.

A Structured Approach for Self-Taught Guitarists

YouTube made guitar education more accessible than ever. But access to hundreds of thousands of lessons created another problem: self-taught guitarists don’t know which lessons belong together, or what order to learn them in to get the fastest results. After 14 years of teaching, Troy Serson created a five-level fingerstyle program to solve that problem. And his initial student testing suggest that structured approach may significantly accelerate progress.

Fingerstyle Fast Track guides students through a curated sequence of lessons and songs designed to build understanding step by step rather than relying on disconnected exercises. By organizing techniques into a clear progression, the program aims to help guitarists develop consistency, confidence, and a stronger connection between practice and musical expression, while building the skill to play their favorite songs quickly.

Teaching Built Around Individual Learning Styles

Throughout his teaching career, Troy Serson has focused on adapting instruction to each student’s goals, experience level, and musical interests.

His student-led approach allows learners to explore the music they enjoy while building the technical foundation needed to continue improving. Serson teaches a wide range of guitar styles, including rock, country, blues, pop, classical, jazz, and metal, allowing students to connect formal techniques with the music they want to play.

Serson’s experience across different genres has shaped what he describes as a genre-neutral teaching approach, where instruction is adapted around what best supports each student’s progress and long-term goals.

“Students learn best when they understand why something works and how it connects to the music they want to create,” said Serson. “My goal has always been to help students find confidence and enjoyment through music while giving them the tools to continue growing.”

Expanding Access Through Online Music Education

After years of teaching students in different settings, Serson developed an online teaching approach designed to provide students with access to structured instruction without the challenges of travel, scheduling conflicts, or geographic limitations.

Music Lessons with Troy currently supports students from different locations, including Canada, the United States, and Italy, through online lessons and digital learning resources.

Through Fingerstyle Fast Track, Serson continues expanding his goal of making effective guitar education more accessible for players who want a clear learning path while developing skills at their own pace.

Helping Guitarists Build Confidence Through Music

For Serson, learning guitar is not only about mastering techniques. It is also about helping students overcome uncertainty and discover the enjoyment that comes from creating music.

Throughout his teaching career, Serson has worked with students across a wide range of ages and experience levels, including young beginners and older learners starting their musical journey later in life. His approach emphasizes patience, encouragement, and finding ways to make challenging concepts easier to understand.

“In the tests I’ve done with students in this program, the slowest student in the program learned fingerpicking 3 times faster than they would have through a regular music studio or conservatory,” said Serson.
