African defense technology company Terra Industries has raised another $18 million, bringing its seed funding to $52 million as it expands autonomous defense systems and manufacturing. The company says it is on track to book $100 million in contracts, including at least one federal contract, and expects revenue to reach the tens of millions of dollars by the end of 2026.
The additional funding includes investments from Joe Lonsdale’s 8VC, Silent Ventures and Nova Global. Terra did not disclose its valuation as part of the latest funding announcement.
Terra launched in 2024 and develops autonomous systems and defense infrastructure, including drones and mine-detecting combat vehicles. The company describes other defense contractors that have secured government contracts, particularly suppliers from Turkey, China and Western countries, as its current competitors.
Terra Has Raised Capital in Several Rounds This Year
The latest investment follows two funding announcements earlier in 2026. Terra first raised $11.75 million before announcing another $22 million round in February.
8VC also backs U.S. defense technology companies Anduril and Shield AI. Anduril was reported in July to be discussing another funding round at a valuation of $100 billion.
Terra says it wants to build a larger domestic defense technology ecosystem for African countries. Many governments across the continent currently depend on security intelligence and defense suppliers from countries including the United States, Russia and China, while also working with multiple international contractors.
That arrangement can leave defense supply chains spread across numerous providers. Terra is positioning its systems as an alternative for governments seeking military equipment and critical defense infrastructure from a company operating within the region.
New Funding Will Support Manufacturing and International Expansion
According to Terra’s funding announcement, the company plans to use the additional capital to expand manufacturing and accelerate deployment of its products across the Global South. It will also increase hiring as it scales its operations.
Terra plans to open an office in London as part of that expansion. The company also hopes to establish an office in San Francisco and build a presence in Washington, D.C., giving it greater access to U.S. capital and potential partnerships.
The expansion follows Terra’s efforts to secure government and commercial contracts while increasing production of its autonomous systems. The company says its current contract pipeline is approaching $100 million as it works toward generating tens of millions of dollars in revenue this year.
