Meta Rolls Out Pocket AI Game-Making App Across the U.S.

Meta is rolling out Pocket, an experimental app that lets users create small interactive games with AI prompts, to everyone in the U.S. The app first launched quietly in Brazil last month and publishes user-made games, or “gizmos,” into a scrollable feed.

Pocket is based on technology and talent from the vibe-coded gaming platform Gizmo, whose team joined Meta earlier this year. Users can generate interactive experiences that respond to touch and phone movement, play sound effects, and include music clips.

Pocket Lets Users Create and Remix AI Games

The app can also use photos from a user’s camera roll or access the device camera. Finished games can be published to a profile, where other users can save them, repost them, or remix them into new creations.

Pocket is now available through the App Store. Meta has not disclosed how many people used the app during its Brazil test.

The product extends Meta’s recent push into AI-generated consumer applications. The company has also introduced tools for making AI images through Meta AI and tested Vibes, a separate app focused on AI-generated video.

Meta Is Shipping More Stand-Alone Apps

Pocket joins several other stand-alone apps Meta has released or tested in recent months. These include Instagram Instants, Forum, Seller, an AI bedtime story experiment, and a Meta AI app for Mac.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during Meta’s July earnings call that AI-assisted software development is making it easier for the company to build and release new applications. He said Meta expects to test more ideas and use its recommendation systems to help them reach larger audiences.

The Pocket rollout also means the original Gizmo app is being shut down. Meta acquired the team behind Gizmo from Atma Sciences earlier this year and has since incorporated its interactive game-making concept into Pocket.

Pocket gives Meta another way to test whether users want to create and consume AI-generated interactive content inside a feed-based social experience.
