As Dental Health Week takes place from 3–9 August 2026, Smile Design Studio is supporting this year’s Australian Dental Association (ADA) campaign by encouraging young Australians to seek personalised advice from a registered dental practitioner before making decisions about their oral health.
The 2026 Dental Health Week theme, “My Smile,” focuses on Australians aged 18 to 25 and highlights the importance of obtaining evidence-based information about oral health, particularly as many young people access information through social media and online platforms.
According to Dr Vicky Ho, principal dentist at Smile Design Studio, it is common for patients to attend consultations with questions about treatments they have seen promoted online.
“Many people come to us after seeing information about cosmetic dental treatments on social media,” Dr Ho said. “While online content can increase awareness of different treatment options, every person’s oral health needs are different. A comprehensive examination allows treatment options to be discussed based on an individual’s dental health, goals and clinical circumstances.”
Dr Ho said Dental Health Week provides an opportunity to remind young adults that treatment decisions should be based on professional assessment rather than trends or online content.
“Whether someone is considering teeth whitening, orthodontic treatment or other cosmetic procedures, it’s important to understand the potential benefits, limitations and suitability of any treatment before proceeding. Consulting a registered dental practitioner allows patients to make informed decisions about their oral health.”
Smile Design Studio provides general, cosmetic and restorative dental services, including assessments for treatments such as clear aligner therapy, porcelain veneers, teeth whitening and dental restorations where clinically appropriate. The practice also offers options for patients who experience dental anxiety.
Dr Ho encourages young adults to maintain regular dental check-ups and seek professional advice if they have questions about their oral health or are considering dental treatment.
