Nvidia and Indosat intend to invest $200 million in an AI center in Indonesia, according to the government.

JAKARTA – In a significant advancement for technology infrastructure in Indonesia, Nvidia and the telecommunications company PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison have announced their collaboration to establish an Artificial Intelligence (AI) center in Surakarta, Central Java. The project, valued at $200 million, is slated for completion in 2024, according to Budi Arie Setiadi, the Communication Minister.

Strategic Investment in Surakarta

The upcoming AI center is poised to become a pivotal hub for technological development, potentially housing both telecommunication infrastructure and a human resource center. Surakarta, also known as Solo, has been chosen as the site for this ambitious project due to its readiness, excellent human resources, and advanced 5G infrastructure.

The decision to locate the facility in Surakarta was further encouraged by the city’s mayor, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who has been briefed on the investment plan. Raka, also the Vice President-elect and son of the current President Joko Widodo, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the city’s preparedness and resources.

This initiative marks a significant step forward in Indonesia’s journey towards becoming a leader in AI technology and telecommunications in the Southeast Asian region.
