Singtel is set to unveil a cloud computing service powered by Nvidia

In an ambitious move set to redefine cloud computing landscapes across Southeast Asia, Singtel has announced its plans to launch Graphics Processing Unit as a Service (GPUaaS) during the third quarter of 2024. This innovative service is poised to transform the digital capabilities of businesses in Singapore and its neighboring countries, propelling them into the forefront of technological advancement.

GPUaaS represents a pivotal leap in cloud-based solutions, providing on-demand access to powerful graphics processing units (GPUs). These technological marvels are the backbone of numerous modern applications, including but not limited to:

  • Machine Learning: Enhancing artificial intelligence by expediting data analysis and algorithmic interpretations.
  • Graphics Rendering: Creating intricate visual content for media, architecture, and virtual reality applications.
  • Data Processing: Analyzing large datasets quickly and efficiently, crucial for research and business intelligence.
  • High-Performance Computing: Supporting scientific research, financial modeling, and engineering simulations.
  • Gaming: Delivering high-definition, real-time graphics for a superior gaming experience.

In a statement released earlier today, Singtel disclosed that its GPUaaS would be powered by Nvidia H100 GPU clusters, heralded for their exceptional computing capabilities. These clusters will be hosted in Singtel’s state-of-the-art data centers in Singapore, which have been recently upgraded to accommodate this new service.

The ambition doesn’t stop at Singapore’s borders. Singtel plans to extend its GPUaaS offering across Southeast Asia, targeting its three upcoming AI-driven, sustainable data centers in Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia. These facilities, currently under development by Nexra, Singtel’s regional data center enterprise, are expected to significantly bolster the company’s digital infrastructure footprint.

In a groundbreaking development, Singtel has also announced plans to deploy Nvidia’s GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchips in early 2025. These chips are a technological marvel, equipped with over 200 billion transistors and capable of delivering an astonishing 30x faster real-time large language model inference than their predecessors.

Bill Chang, CEO of Singtel’s Digital InfraCo unit and Nxera, emphasized the strategic importance of this initiative. He stated, “Our GPUaaS will operate in AI-ready data centers, meticulously designed for high-intensity computing environments. These centers will feature advanced liquid-cooling technologies to ensure maximum efficiency and minimal power usage.”

  • Flexibility and Scalability: Enterprises can leverage AI technologies without the hefty investment in data center infrastructure.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Reduced operational costs and a pay-per-use model make advanced computing accessible to a wider range of businesses.
  • High Performance: State-of-the-art Nvidia GPUs ensure unparalleled computing power for complex tasks.
  • Sustainability: Eco-friendly data centers underscore Singtel’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

Chang also highlighted the broad interest from various sectors, indicating a strong market demand for accessible, high-performance computing solutions.

In a separate announcement, Singtel unveiled Paragon-S at the global Satellite 2024 Conference and Exhibition in Washington DC. This digital aggregation and orchestration platform represents another milestone in Singtel’s journey of digital innovation. Paragon-S, a product of in-house development based on the patented Paragon platform, integrates satellite services with terrestrial network connectivity, offering unparalleled flexibility and efficiency.

The Revolutionary Impact of Paragon-S:

  • Versatile Connectivity: Enables seamless application switching between satellite and terrestrial networks, optimizing performance and cost.
  • Platform Evolution: Transforms satellite operators into platform companies, fostering innovation and accelerating market readiness for new services.
  • Edge Computing and AI Integration: Opens new revenue streams through advanced computing capabilities, directly benefiting enterprises and operators alike.

Bill Chang expressed his vision for Paragon-S as a catalyst for transformation in the satellite industry, aiming to build a robust ecosystem that supports operators and enterprises in harnessing the full potential of digital technologies.

As Singtel gears up to launch these cutting-edge services, the implications for businesses in Southeast Asia and beyond are profound. By democratizing access to high-performance computing and fostering innovation in satellite communications, Singtel is not just reshaping its business landscape but also setting new standards for digital excellence globallySingtel is set to unveil a cloud computing service powered by Nvidia
