Disruptive Raises $10 Billion Fund to Invest in AI and Defense Startups

Dallas-based investment firm Disruptive has announced a $10 billion flagship fund to invest in approximately 10 growth-stage and late-stage technology companies, with individual investments of up to $1 billion. The fund will focus on capital-intensive sectors, including artificial intelligence, computing infrastructure and defense technology.

The firm announced the fund on October 27, 2026, describing it as one of a small number of technology-focused investment vehicles of this size. According to the Dallas Business Journal, the fundraising is the largest venture capital fund raised in Texas history.

Disruptive Shifts From Individual Deals to Flagship Fund

Founded in 2012 by Alex Davis, grandson of billionaire oil magnate Marvin Davis, Disruptive has previously invested through deal-specific special purpose vehicles rather than a traditional pooled investment fund. Its new $10 billion vehicle represents the firm’s first blind-pool fund, allowing investors to commit capital before the underlying investments have been selected.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier in October that Disruptive was seeking to raise $10 billion and had already secured at least $7.5 billion in investor commitments. The firm subsequently announced the full fund amount, supported by relationships with existing limited partners.

Disruptive plans to concentrate its investments among approximately 10 companies rather than distribute capital across a larger portfolio. The firm said it will continue working closely with founders and management teams, providing financial backing, industry connections and strategic support during periods of growth.

AI and Defense Technology Lead Investment Focus

Disruptive’s existing and previous investments include technology companies such as Palantir, Airbnb, Spotify, Databricks, Groq, ElevenLabs, Helsing, Reflection AI and Shield AI. Its portfolio spans artificial intelligence, semiconductor development, enterprise software and defense technology.

The firm has made substantial investments in AI chip developer Groq and AI voice-generation company ElevenLabs. Bloomberg reported that Disruptive told limited partners it had returned more than $6 billion from approximately $1.9 billion invested in startups, although the figures were not independently verified.

Disruptive founder and CEO Alex Davis said private technology companies are remaining privately held for longer periods while requiring increasingly large amounts of capital. He explained that the new fund would allow Disruptive to maintain its concentrated investment approach while making larger commitments to selected companies.

The firm’s investment priorities include AI infrastructure, defense and national security technologies, where businesses may require substantial funding for computing capacity, research and development, and commercial expansion. Disruptive has not disclosed which companies will receive investments from the new fund or when the first transactions are expected to be completed.
