AI image and video company Midjourney has acquired Co-Star, a social astrology app with about 4.3 million monthly active users. The financial terms were not disclosed, and the transaction reportedly closed during spring 2026.
Co-Star founder Banu Guler will continue leading the astrology service while becoming Midjourney’s chief design officer. The app’s approximately two dozen employees have also joined Midjourney.
Co-Star Team Will Help Build Midjourney Apps
Midjourney founder David Holz said Guler and her team will help develop the company’s first consumer-facing applications. One planned product will provide a dedicated interface for Midjourney’s image-generation technology.
Midjourney currently offers its image and video models through its website and Discord. A standalone app could make its tools accessible to people who do not use Discord and give the company more control over the complete user experience.
The company has not provided a launch date or further details about the planned applications. It also has not said whether Co-Star’s technology or user data will be connected to its generative AI products.
Co-Star Will Continue Operating
The Co-Star astrology app produces personalised birth charts, daily horoscopes and compatibility assessments that users can share with friends. Its service combines astronomical data with writing produced by human astrologers and AI systems.
Guler will remain responsible for Co-Star after joining Midjourney’s leadership team. Neither company has announced plans to close the app or change how its existing services operate.
Acquisition Expands Midjourney’s Product Range
Midjourney is best known for models that generate images and videos from written instructions. The Co-Star purchase gives it a team with experience building and operating a consumer mobile platform with millions of regular users.
The acquisition also follows Midjourney’s expansion into projects outside its original image-generation service. The company has been developing new products across consumer software and medical imaging while continuing to update its generative models.
The Verge reported that the acquisition was announced on Thursday after Bloomberg first disclosed the transaction. Midjourney has not published the deal terms or a standalone acquisition statement on its public website.
