Bluesky is expanding Attie, its AI assistant for building custom social feeds, into a research tool that can analyse discussions across the wider AT Protocol network. A new feature called Quests lets users ask open-ended questions about news, trends, communities and influential accounts.
The updated experience remains in beta and will gradually admit users from a waitlist. Bluesky is also redesigning Attie with accessibility improvements, a new logo and additional features planned over the coming months.
Quests Searches Across the Atmosphere
Attie previously focused on helping people create custom feeds without programming. Users could describe the posts they wanted to see, and the assistant would translate those instructions into a personalised feed.
Quests extends that function beyond feed creation. Users can ask Attie to identify topics gaining attention, find accounts connected to a specific industry or location, and prepare briefings based on conversations across the network.
The search covers Bluesky and other apps built on the AT Protocol, an open standard that allows social services to share common infrastructure. Bluesky refers to this wider collection of interoperable apps as the Atmosphere.
Chief Innovation Officer Jay Graber said Attie is intended to help people understand online information rather than add more content to it. She said the assistant could reduce the technical knowledge required to customise AT Protocol experiences.
Bluesky Looks Beyond Its Main App
Bluesky launched Attie in March as a separate experimental product. The company has discussed eventually allowing users to create simple AT Protocol apps through written instructions, although that capability is not yet available.
The assistant is currently free, but Bluesky has considered charging for access. A paid version could provide another source of revenue alongside possible subscriptions and tools for frequent users.
Bluesky’s registered account count has grown to about 45.6 million after passing 40 million in October 2025. Growth has slowed from the rapid expansion recorded during the previous year, increasing pressure on the company to develop services beyond its core social network.
Funding Supports New Product Experiments
Bluesky disclosed in March that it had raised $100 million in Series B funding in a round completed in April 2025. Bain Capital Crypto led the investment, with participation from Alumni Ventures, Anthos Capital, Bloomberg Beta, Knight Foundation and True Ventures.
The company also changed its leadership structure in March when Graber stepped down as chief executive to focus on product development. Former Automattic founding CEO Toni Schneider became Bluesky’s permanent chief executive in July.
Bluesky said Attie will continue changing during the beta period as it tests how AI can support research, custom feeds and development across the Atmosphere.
