Netflix Secures Global Rights to the Entire Walking Dead Franchise

AMC Global Media has signed a multi-year licensing agreement that will bring all 371 episodes of The Walking Dead franchise to Netflix in additional markets. The five-year deal is reportedly worth $500 million and gives Netflix co-exclusive streaming rights alongside AMC+.

The agreement covers the original series and six spin-offs. It expands Netflix’s access beyond the United States into markets including the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia and New Zealand.

Original Series Will No Longer Be Exclusive to Netflix

Netflix has streamed the original The Walking Dead series in the United States since 2011. Under the new arrangement, AMC+ will regain access to the programme in January 2027, ending Netflix’s long-running exclusivity.

Netflix and AMC+ will then share streaming access to the franchise. The arrangement allows AMC to retain the value of its own subscription service while using Netflix’s global reach to introduce the shows to more viewers.

The agreement covers the original 177-episode series alongside Fear the Walking Dead, World Beyond, Tales of the Walking Dead, Dead City, Daryl Dixon and The Ones Who Live. Together, the seven series account for 371 episodes.

Spin-Offs Will Expand Globally in 2027

Netflix subscribers in additional territories will begin receiving the wider Walking Dead Universe collection from 2027. Release timing may vary by market and by the availability of existing local licensing agreements.

The franchise remains active at AMC. Dead City has returned for a third season, while Daryl Dixon is scheduled to conclude with its final season in 2027.

The extensive catalogue gives Netflix hundreds of hours of established programming that can support repeat viewing and longer subscriber engagement. Unlike a newly commissioned series, the franchise already has an international audience and several continuing storylines.

Agreement Raises AMC’s Financial Outlook

AMC announced the Netflix agreement alongside its second-quarter financial results and raised its outlook for 2026. The company expects to recognise approximately $200 million to $225 million in revenue connected to the deal across 2026 and 2027.

The reported $500 million value makes the agreement one of the larger television licensing deals completed in recent years. AMC said the partnership would place the franchise in front of a broader global audience while preserving access through AMC+.

The deal also reflects Netflix’s continued use of established television franchises alongside original programming. Its licensed catalogue has previously included long-running series such as Friends, The Office and Seinfeld.
