British AI cloud company Nscale has agreed to acquire Anyscale, adding software for managing large AI workloads to its data centre and GPU infrastructure business. The financial terms were not officially disclosed, although Bloomberg reported that Nscale is paying about $1.65 billion.
The companies expect the transaction to close during the second half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and other conditions. Anyscale will continue operating under its existing brand and serving its current customers.
Anyscale Adds a Software Layer to Nscale
Anyscale was founded by the team behind Ray, an open-source Python framework for distributing computing tasks across clusters of machines. Its platform helps companies run data processing, model training, inference and reinforcement learning workloads across thousands of GPUs.
The company provides tools for orchestration, monitoring and scaling across different clouds and computing environments. Customers can use the same software to process multimodal data, fine-tune large language models and operate AI applications without rewriting them for each infrastructure provider.
Nscale said in its official acquisition announcement that combining the businesses would create a more vertically integrated AI cloud. Nscale supplies power, data centres and GPU compute, while Anyscale provides the software used by engineering teams to manage workloads.
Approximately 200 Employees Will Join Nscale
Anyscale’s full team of about 200 employees across the United States, Europe and India will join Nscale after the deal closes. The company said customers will remain free to run Anyscale software on other infrastructure providers, with Nscale becoming an additional option over time.
Ray will remain open source and governed independently through the PyTorch Foundation. Nscale said it plans to join the foundation and support the framework’s continued development.
Anyscale reported that revenue grew 70% in its latest quarter compared with the previous three-month period. The company was valued at approximately $1.38 billion after a Series C funding round in 2022.
Nscale Expands Its Full-Stack Strategy
Nscale raised $2 billion in Series C funding in March at a valuation of $14.6 billion. Investors included Aker, Nvidia, Dell, Nokia, Lenovo, Citadel and Point72.
The company has been using equity and debt financing to expand its data centre footprint and secure large GPU deployments. Its partnerships include infrastructure projects with Microsoft and facilities across Europe and North America.
The Anyscale acquisition gives Nscale more control over the software customers use after renting its computing capacity. The company will be able to offer infrastructure, workload management, model training and inference through one platform rather than relying on customers to assemble those layers separately.
