Google Brings Gemini Personal Intelligence to Android Auto With Gmail and Calendar Integration

Google has started rolling out Personal Intelligence for its Gemini AI assistant in Android Auto, allowing drivers to access information from Gmail, Google Calendar, Maps, YouTube, and other connected services through voice commands. Announced on October 20, 2026, the feature uses personal information to provide responses based on users’ schedules, preferences, and previous activities.

The update announced by Google is initially available through Android Auto, with support for vehicles equipped with Google Built-in arriving in the coming months. Drivers must enable Personal Intelligence before Gemini can access their connected information.

Gemini Connects Google Apps to Provide Personalized Assistance

Personal Intelligence allows Gemini to retrieve and combine information from Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Photos, Maps, YouTube, and Google Search history. Instead of requiring users to search individual applications, the assistant can respond to natural-language requests using information from several connected services.

For example, drivers heading to an airport can ask Gemini about their flight’s departure gate and whether the flight has been delayed. The assistant can retrieve relevant booking information and provide both answers during the same conversation.

Users can also ask Gemini to navigate to an appointment listed in their calendar without manually entering the address. Other examples include finding a car wash from a previously taken photograph or locating a coffee shop mentioned in an earlier conversation.

Google initially introduced Gemini to Android Auto in November 2025, while Personal Intelligence became available to US users in March 2026. The feature has since expanded into beta testing in additional international markets.

Personal Intelligence Expands to Vehicles With Google Built-in

Google is introducing the feature through two automotive platforms, beginning with Android Auto, which connects smartphones to compatible vehicle infotainment systems. Android Auto allows drivers to access navigation, messaging, music, and other supported applications through the vehicle’s display.

The second platform, Google Built-in, integrates Google applications and services directly into a vehicle’s operating system. Personal Intelligence will reach compatible vehicles using this system in the coming months.

Google said the feature is available to eligible personal account holders aged 18 and older, excluding users in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria. Google Workspace business, enterprise, and education accounts are not currently supported.

Google Gives Drivers Control Over Connected Data

Personal Intelligence is optional, and users can choose which Google applications they want Gemini to access. The feature can be enabled or disabled through Gemini settings at any time.

For drivers who previously enabled Personal Intelligence in the Gemini application, their existing preferences will carry over to Android Auto. In vehicles with Google Built-in, personalized responses are available only when the user’s phone is connected.

Drivers who choose not to activate Personal Intelligence can continue using Gemini for navigation, music playback, phone calls, and general questions. However, the assistant will not use personal information from connected Google services to customize its responses.
