Bulbthings recently launched a new customization skill for its AI Copilot that introduces several new functions, allowing users to describe what they need in plain language via text or voice, or by uploading an existing document, such as a paper checklist.
The launch builds on the AI Copilot introduced by Bulbthings in January 2026. The Copilot acts as an admin or user within a Bulbthings workspace: instead of clicking through menus, users tell it what they want done, and it performs the action based on user permissions. It is available on every screen of the Bulbthings web and mobile apps, by chat or voice, in an optional window beside the standard interface.
Several maintenance software (CMMS) vendors have introduced AI agents over the past year. These tools are designed for assets that need maintenance, such as machines and vehicles. Bulbthings takes a broader approach. It automates operations for every physical asset a company relies on, with complete lifecycle and financial management for all of them.
Bulbthings’ Copilot AI can manage and automate high-value assets and maintenance schedules; vehicles fleet management; shared tools and equipment; bulk items and consumables such as PPE and construction materials; inventory and stock management; properties; maintenance; inspections; and compliance.
The scale reflects how Bulbthings’ customers work. In construction and energy, logistics teams book the equipment, tools, PPE, and materials each job site needs, while also managing the maintenance and total cost of ownership of plant and vehicle fleets. Media teams book high-value gear alongside the consumables each job requires and track repairs of production equipment. Rental companies run the rental and invoicing process alongside after-sales repairs in the same system.
Bulbthings customers include James Fisher and Sons and Monaco Marine in construction and energy; Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and Applus+ in engineering and manufacturing; the BBC in media and entertainment; Eden Rock – St Barths in hospitality; and Pro Velo in rental.
Bulbthings provides standard workflows out of the box, but many companies follow rules specific to their teams’ ways of working. Adapting software to those rules has typically required developers, rule-builders, a services project, or visual workflow builders that offer flexibility but often take significant training or consulting to master.
The Customization Skill delivers that flexibility with no learning curve. It is trained on the Bulbthings API and SDK, so the Copilot can configure the platform much as a developer would. Most AI assistants in asset management software answer questions or carry out tasks, and some can set up simple automations. The Customization Skill goes further: it can build entirely new features, such as new record types, the relationships between them, and the workflows around them. For example, an admin can ask the Copilot to create a technician certification tracker, complete with its own fields, overdue alerts, and a validation checklist.
Admins can also set up scheduled reports, delivered by email and in-app, and ask the Copilot for instant operational and financial insights.

Bulbthings frames the launch around a challenge specific to mid-size companies. They need modern software that is quick to onboard and intuitive to use, but that can also handle large numbers of assets and advanced workflows with high levels of automation and flexibility. Simple tools are easy to adopt but struggle at scale, while enterprise suites handle scale but require lengthy implementation projects. Bulbthings describes itself as an enterprise-grade platform made accessible to mid-size companies.
“Every job depends on more than the machines that need servicing. A construction crew needs the right tools, PPE, and materials on site. A film crew needs its cameras, plus the batteries and consumables that go with them,” said Leslie Depond, co-founder at Bulbthings. “Bulbthings automates operations for every physical asset a company relies on, in one platform. With the Customization Skill, mid-size companies can now shape that platform. The Customization Skill is available now in the Bulbthings AI Copilot.”
