Elon Musk Reportedly Invests $1 Billion in Skydance Following Warner Bros. Merger

Elon Musk has reportedly invested approximately $1 billion in Skydance, the newly combined media and entertainment company formed following Paramount’s $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The investment comes as Skydance works to integrate its streaming platforms, television networks, and film studios while targeting at least $6 billion in annual cost savings over the next three years.

According to an October 22 report by Semafor, Musk’s investment occurred around the same time as additional equity contributions from existing investors, including board member Laurene Powell Jobs. Neither Musk nor Skydance has publicly confirmed the transaction, and details of his ownership stake remain undisclosed.

Skydance Secures New Investment Following $110 Billion Merger

Skydance officially completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6, 2026, creating a media company spanning film production, television, streaming, and news. The combined business operates Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., Paramount+, HBO Max, CBS, CNN, MTV, Comedy Central, TBS, and Food Network.

According to the company’s official merger announcement, Skydance shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol SKYD following the acquisition. Former Paramount CEO David Ellison and former Mattel chief executive Ynon Kreiz serve as co-CEOs of the combined company.

The acquisition was supported by substantial financing, including a personal guarantee from Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison covering over $40 billion in equity commitments. Skydance has since outlined plans to improve profitability, reduce debt, and consolidate operations across its newly acquired businesses.

Skydance Targets $6 Billion in Cost Savings

Skydance expects to achieve at least $6 billion in annualized cost savings within three years through operational restructuring, technology integration, procurement, and other efficiency measures. The company is combining businesses that previously operated independently, including two major streaming services and several competing television networks.

The restructuring is expected to involve workforce reductions and adjustments to production, distribution, and administrative operations. Skydance has also committed to reducing its debt burden following the acquisition.

Musk’s reported investment would provide additional financial support as the company manages integration costs and seeks to improve its market performance. However, neither the timing nor the specific terms of the investment have been disclosed.

Musk Maintains Longstanding Relationship With Ellison Family

Musk has maintained close personal and business ties with Larry Ellison, the father of Skydance co-CEO David Ellison. The Oracle founder joined Tesla’s board of directors in 2018 and previously invested in the electric vehicle manufacturer.

Larry Ellison also contributed approximately $1 billion to Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, now known as X, in 2022. The relationship has connected Musk and the Ellison family through several major technology investments.

The reported Skydance investment would extend those financial ties into the media and entertainment industry. The company has not indicated whether Musk would receive a board seat or participate in management decisions as part of the transaction.
