Car rental marketplace Turo has partnered with Tesla to let customers identify and book vehicles equipped with the automaker’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) driver assistance system. The feature will launch in the United States on October 28, 2026, with eligible vehicle owners receiving a free one-month trial of the software.
According to Turo’s official announcement, the integration will use Tesla’s application programming interface (API) to verify whether vehicles listed on the marketplace have FSD activated. Customers will be able to search for compatible vehicles rather than relying solely on descriptions provided by owners.
Tesla Owners Gain Access to FSD Rental Features
Eligible vehicle owners, known as hosts on Turo, can connect their Tesla accounts to verify FSD availability and display the feature on their listings. Turo said thousands of FSD-enabled Tesla vehicles are already available through its marketplace.
The Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are currently Turo’s third- and fourth-most popular vehicle models, respectively, based on rental activity in 2026. The company expects the integration to provide additional earning opportunities for hosts as customers seek access to advanced driving technology.
Turo CEO Andre Haddad said the partnership would allow more travelers to experience driver assistance features that have previously been difficult to access. Citing company research, Haddad reported that 55% of Americans expressed interest in driverless technology for travel, increasing to 71% among Generation Z respondents.
Tesla Reports Growing Full Self-Driving Subscriptions
The partnership follows Tesla’s latest financial disclosures, which showed approximately 1.7 million customers worldwide had paid for FSD. The automaker has manufactured and sold more than 10 million vehicles to date.
Tesla also reported that more than 75% of customers who received vehicles in North America during the third quarter purchased an FSD subscription. That represented an increase of approximately 20% from the previous quarter, despite declining vehicle sales in the United States.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has attributed growing interest in the company’s vehicles to FSD capabilities. Chief Financial Officer Vaibhav Taneja similarly said during Tesla’s latest earnings call that customers increasingly request FSD demonstrations before asking about specific vehicle models.
Drivers Must Remain Attentive When Using FSD
Although FSD can perform many driving tasks, the system requires continuous human supervision and does not make Tesla vehicles fully autonomous. Turo will display safety notices reminding renters to monitor the vehicle and remain prepared to take control at any moment.
Customers will also have access to a Tesla-produced tutorial explaining the system’s operation and limitations. Rental listings may display a “Self-Driving” label, although drivers remain responsible for operating the vehicle safely.
