Apple’s New Touchscreen MacBook Pro Costs Up to $14,549 With Maximum Upgrades

Apple has introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, with prices starting at $2,899 and reaching $14,549 for a fully configured 16-inch model. The new laptops feature M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, touchscreen OLED displays, and expanded storage options, including up to 16TB of SSD capacity.

According to Apple’s official announcement on October 28, the new MacBook Pro is available in 14-inch and 16-inch versions. The 14-inch model starts at $2,899, while the 16-inch model starts at $3,399, with both offering touchscreen functionality for the first time in the MacBook lineup.

Fully Upgraded MacBook Pro Costs Up to $14,549

As first reported by MacRumors, Apple’s online configurator lists the fully upgraded 14-inch MacBook Pro at $14,249 and the 16-inch version at $14,549. Both configurations include the M5 Max chip with an 18-core CPU and 40-core GPU, alongside the highest available memory and storage options.

Storage upgrades account for a substantial portion of the price increase, with a 4TB SSD adding $1,000 and an 8TB SSD costing an additional $3,000. The new 16TB storage option adds $7,000, while upgrading to 128GB of unified memory costs another $2,000.

Customers can also select nano-texture display glass for an additional $150. The higher configuration prices come amid an ongoing memory shortage and increased demand for computing hardware used in artificial intelligence applications.

For comparison, the previous 16-inch MacBook Pro reached a maximum configuration price of $10,149. The new model raises that figure by $4,400, representing an increase of approximately 43%.

Apple Introduces Touchscreen Display to MacBook Pro

The new MacBook Pro features Apple’s PROLED XDR display, which uses tandem OLED technology and supports a 120Hz variable refresh rate. The display also offers up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness, while touchscreen controls allow users to interact directly with supported applications.

The introduction of touchscreen functionality follows Apple’s earlier experiment with the Touch Bar, which debuted in 2016. The company eventually discontinued the Touch Bar in 2023, returning to physical function keys before introducing full touchscreen support in the latest MacBook Pro models.

The new laptops also feature a thinner and lighter design, with the 14-inch model weighing approximately three pounds and the 16-inch version weighing four pounds. Apple rates battery life at up to 24 hours, depending on usage.

Preorders for the new MacBook Pro opened on October 28 in selected markets, with general availability scheduled for November 6. Customers can configure the models through Apple’s online store.
