Five new local business directories have launched for Hope, Oakville, Vernon, Winnipeg and Metro Vancouver. Each site gives residents a free way to find locally owned businesses in their own community, and gives those businesses a free listing that a person reviews before it goes live.

Hope and Vernon Open in British Columbia

Hope Local lists 28 businesses in Hope and the Fraser Canyon, organized by neighbourhood, including Kawkawa Lake. Vernon Local has 379 businesses across neighbourhoods that include City Centre, Amblands, Polson, Mission Hill and Okanagan Landing.

Oakville and Winnipeg Open in Ontario and Manitoba

Oakville Local opens with 275 businesses sorted by neighbourhood, including Bronte, Downtown Oakville, Kerr Village, Glen Abbey and Joshua Creek. Winnipeg Local lists 247 businesses across neighbourhoods such as Downtown, Osborne Village, Fort Rouge, St. Boniface and River Heights. Both publish local guides on seasonal events and dining.

One Directory for the Whole Metro Vancouver Region

Metro Vancouver Local takes a region-wide approach. It covers the region’s 21 municipalities in one place and opens with 165 businesses.

How Each Directory Works

All five sites follow the same approach. Adding a business is free, every submission is reviewed by a person before it is published, and anyone can send a correction when details change. Paid placement is clearly labelled wherever it is offered, and editorial picks are never for sale.

Are You a Local Business?

Business owners in any of these communities can add their business for free at hopelocal.ca, oakvillelocal.ca, vernonlocal.ca, winnipeglocal.ca or metrovancouverlocal.ca. A listing gives a business a permanent local presence with its contact details, a description of what it offers and a link to its own website.
