Senior Vice President Mike Bell Resigns from Lucid Motors

Mike Bell, Lucid Motors’ senior vice president of digital, has resigned effectively immediately to pursue other opportunities, as announced in a recent company filing.

Bell, a seasoned executive with a rich background at Apple and Intel, will transition to an advisory role through mid-August to facilitate the handover of his responsibilities at Lucid. In recognition of his contributions, he will receive severance benefits and a consulting fee of $125,000.

During his tenure, Bell steered Lucid’s software division, overseeing development crucial to the company’s flagship products. His departure comes at a challenging time for Lucid, which faces hurdles in stabilizing demand for its luxury model, the Air, and advancing the production of its next vehicle, the Gravity SUV. Bell’s role will be temporarily filled by Derrick Carty, another Apple alum and the current vice president of platform software at Lucid.

Bell joined Lucid in 2021 after a six-month consultancy period with the electric vehicle startup. His career prior to Lucid includes a brief role as Rivian’s first chief technology officer and significant contributions to the tech industry. Notably, he managed Intel’s mobile division, was instrumental in launching the Palm Pre, and spent nearly two decades at Apple, where he played a pivotal role in the development of the iPhone.

The announcement of Bell’s resignation was made alongside Lucid’s earnings results for the first quarter of 2024. The company reported a loss of $680 million, with 1,967 units of its luxury electric sedan delivered during the period.
