Netflix Paid $587 Million for Ben Affleck’s InterPositive AI Start-Up

Netflix paid $587 million in cash to acquire InterPositive, the filmmaking technology company founded by actor and director Ben Affleck. The amount appeared in the streaming company’s latest regulatory filing after Netflix initially announced the purchase without disclosing its financial terms.

The price was close to an earlier Bloomberg report that valued the transaction at up to $600 million. Netflix completed the acquisition in March 2026.

InterPositive Team Joins Netflix

Netflix announced in its official acquisition statement that InterPositive’s entire team would join the company. Affleck became a senior adviser as part of the agreement.

InterPositive develops AI-powered production tools for filmmakers. Its technology works with footage already captured during production and helps address missing shots, background replacements, lighting errors and visual inconsistencies during post-production.

Affleck said he founded the company to protect human creativity and keep filmmakers in control of creative decisions. The company trained its first model using a proprietary dataset filmed on a controlled soundstage, with a focus on filmmaking techniques rather than actors’ performances.

The tools were designed to understand visual logic and editorial consistency while following established production methods. InterPositive also introduced safeguards intended to preserve creative intent and prevent the technology from replacing decisions made by directors and other production teams.

Netflix Expands Its Use of Generative AI

Netflix confirmed the acquisition in its first-quarter shareholder letter, describing InterPositive as a company that builds AI tools for and alongside filmmakers. The streaming company said the purchase would support its effort to give creative partners more production options.

Netflix has since disclosed that generative AI was used in around 300 titles on its service during 2026. Most applications involved production and post-production work, including visual effects, worldbuilding and complex scenes that could otherwise require more time or larger budgets.

Netflix executives have said the company intends to use AI to support storytellers rather than replace writers, directors, actors or production crews. InterPositive will continue developing its filmmaking tools within Netflix under that approach.
