Spider-Man: Brand New Day generated $927 million in worldwide ticket sales during its opening weekend, the second-largest global cinema debut on record. The Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios film trails only Avengers: Endgame, which opened with more than $1.2 billion in 2019.
The total was more than four times the film’s estimated $225 million production budget. It also became the biggest opening of 2026 and exceeded the global debut of the previous instalment, Spider-Man: No Way Home.
North American Sales Reach $355 Million
Brand New Day collected $355 million from cinemas in the United States and Canada, securing the second-largest domestic opening behind Avengers: Endgame. Early reports had placed the figure at $335 million, but updated weekend estimates increased the total.
International markets contributed another $572 million from more than 73,000 screens. China was the largest overseas market with $121 million, while UK cinemas generated $49 million.
The film opened on July 31 and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker, with Zendaya returning as MJ. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, it follows Peter several years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home as he fights crime in a world where people no longer remember his identity.
Spider-Man Gives Marvel a Major Box Office Release
The opening provides Marvel Studios with a strong theatrical result before Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release on December 18. Several Marvel films released after Avengers: Endgame attracted smaller audiences, including The Marvels and Thunderbolts*.
Spider-Man remains one of Marvel’s highest-earning film properties. No Way Home generated nearly $2 billion worldwide following its release in 2021.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige described the opening as phenomenal and thanked audiences for seeing the film in cinemas. The latest release also received largely positive reviews, including a 90% critics’ score and a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes during its opening weekend.
North American Box Office Heads Towards $10 Billion
North American cinema revenue is on course to exceed $10 billion in 2026 for the first time since 2019. Major releases supporting the total include Toy Story 5, Michael and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, each of which has generated more than $1 billion globally.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Brand New Day are also positioned to cross the $1 billion level. Independent horror films Obsession and Backrooms have each earned more than $390 million despite carrying smaller production budgets.
