Color Earth, a content production company specializing in documentary, television, digital, corporate, and expedition filmmaking, is celebrating almost 25 years of creating visual stories from locations around the world. Since its founding in 2002 by Executive Producer Shane Reynolds, the company has developed a production model that combines creative direction, cinematography, editing, hosting, aerial filming, and underwater cinematography into a flexible workflow designed for productions in both urban settings and remote environments. Throughout its journey, Color Earth has continued to produce content that reflects preparation, trusted relationships, and immersive storytelling.

Over the past two decades, Color Earth has completed productions ranging from long-form television programs and documentaries to branded campaigns, music videos, corporate films, and online content. Its mobile production model allows the company to support projects as a full-service production partner or as a specialized freelance resource, giving clients flexibility while maintaining a consistent creative vision. Across every format, the company has focused on stories that benefit from direct access, thoughtful planning, and an understanding of the environments where filming takes place.

“As technology evolves, every new tool creates exciting possibilities, but the camera has always been only one part of the story,” says Reynolds. “The experiences that stay with people begin long before anyone presses record. They begin with curiosity, preparation, and the privilege of earning someone’s trust.”

That philosophy has developed alongside significant changes across the production industry. During Color Earth’s history, filmmaking has progressed from traditional broadcast workflows to digital production, drone cinematography, VR/360, and increasingly accessible professional equipment.

While production methods have expanded, Reynolds believes experience continues to provide important context for creating stories that reflect genuine moments. Technology has broadened creative opportunities, while preparation, adaptability, and authentic field experience continue to guide each production.

Those qualities have been strengthened through years of work across multiple countries. According to Reynolds, he has filmed adventure and wildlife expeditions in demanding environments around the world and has worked on international productions for organizations and networks, including National Geographic and Travel Channel. Long-standing collaborations with The Cousteau Family and his team have also contributed to Color Earth’s ongoing work in underwater cinematography and marine storytelling from Shark Week and beyond.

After decades of telling authentic stories, social media was a natural transition. Reynolds has built a large following across several platforms with behind-the-scenes footage, drone work, and his own style of underwater camera work (many know him for camera drops) that continues to authentically share his experiences from around the world and within his own backyard.

Several expeditions have become defining moments in the company’s history. During an assignment in the Guyana rainforest, changing environmental conditions transformed a planned expedition into a journey that eventually inspired a memorable television episode of survival. Experiences such as these reinforced the importance of adapting to changing circumstances while respecting the natural environments where stories unfold. That perspective continues to influence the company’s work from land, air, and sea.

As Color Earth expanded internationally, relationships developed over many years became an important part of its work. Trusted partnerships have created opportunities to document locations, communities, and discoveries that often require familiarity, patience, and mutual respect. Reynolds believes those connections develop through consistent collaboration and a production style that remains efficient while keeping a small operational footprint.

“Some of the most meaningful opportunities in my career began with a simple phone call from someone who believed I would treat their story with care,” Reynolds states. “Trust grows through every conversation, every journey, and every project completed together. Those relationships continue to inspire every expedition we undertake.”

As Color Earth approaches 25 years, the company continues to build on the principles that have guided its work from the beginning. While production technology will continue to evolve, the company believes authentic storytelling grows through experience, meaningful relationships, thoughtful preparation, and a genuine appreciation for the people and places that make every story possible.
