Anthropic has reportedly agreed to purchase $10 billion in computing capacity from AI infrastructure startup Volta over six years. The agreement would give the Claude developer access to a new 133-megawatt data centre in Norway equipped with Nvidia’s Vera Rubin systems.
Volta publicly confirmed a $10 billion cloud contract with an unnamed AI company but did not identify the customer. Bloomberg reported that the buyer was Anthropic, citing people familiar with the agreement.
Bitdeer Will Help Develop the Norway Facility
Volta is working with Bitdeer Technologies to develop the infrastructure supporting the contract. Bitdeer began as a cryptocurrency mining company and has been converting parts of its energy and data-centre portfolio for AI computing.
The planned facility will be located in Norway and provide 133 megawatts of capacity. Bitdeer has previously disclosed that it was negotiating with a potential customer for an AI data centre at its Tydal site, where existing cryptocurrency infrastructure has been undergoing conversion.
The project will use Nvidia’s Vera Rubin platform, which combines processors, networking, storage and cooling for large AI training and inference workloads. Nvidia has said Anthropic is among the AI developers planning to use Vera Rubin systems.
Volta Enters the AI Cloud Market With Major Contract
Volta was founded in early 2026 and operates as a specialised AI infrastructure provider. It combines access to land, energy, computing hardware and cloud software rather than relying entirely on facilities owned by large technology companies.
The startup is part of the Nvidia Cloud Partner programme, which includes cloud providers offering infrastructure based on Nvidia processors. Nvidia describes the participating companies as providers of computing systems designed for production-scale AI workloads.
Volta also announced a $5 billion infrastructure programme with investment manager Azora to finance additional AI facilities. The company was valued at approximately $2.4 billion in a recent funding round involving Nvidia, Andreessen Horowitz, Altimeter and other investors.
Anthropic Continues Expanding Compute Capacity
Anthropic has signed several large infrastructure agreements as it increases the computing capacity available for developing and operating Claude. In April, the company expanded its Amazon partnership to secure up to five gigawatts of additional capacity for model training and deployment.
Amazon remains Anthropic’s primary cloud and training partner and has invested a total of $8 billion in the company. Anthropic has also arranged access to infrastructure from other providers as it seeks more geographic coverage and reduces its reliance on a single source of computing capacity.
Neither Anthropic nor Volta has publicly confirmed Anthropic’s identity as the customer in the Norway agreement. The reported contract would nevertheless represent one of Anthropic’s largest commitments to an independent AI cloud provider.
