Vogue World Heads to San Francisco in 2027

Vogue will bring Vogue World to San Francisco in early fall 2027, making the city the next host of its large-scale fashion, art and culture event. The announcement follows previous editions in New York, London and Paris, with Milan set to host the event in 2026.

Anna Wintour, Condé Nast’s chief content officer and Vogue’s global editorial director, said San Francisco was selected for its mix of creativity, diverse communities and willingness to embrace change. She also pointed to the city’s history of innovation and support for the arts.

San Francisco Had Been Rumored as the Next Host

Speculation about a San Francisco edition increased in June after Wintour was seen visiting the city. Her schedule included a meeting with Mayor Daniel Lurie and Vogue staff while the publication was reportedly considering San Francisco as a potential host.

Lurie said Vogue World could support the city’s creative economy as San Francisco continues rebuilding its cultural and retail sectors. Juan Costa Paz will return as creative director for the 2027 event, while specific designers, performers and venues have not yet been announced.

San Francisco is not traditionally grouped with global fashion centres such as Paris, London or Milan, but it has its own history in apparel and design. Levi Strauss and Gap were founded in the region, while independent retailers and designers continue to operate alongside the technology companies that now dominate the city’s economy.

Fashion and Silicon Valley Are Becoming More Connected

The decision also arrives as technology executives and companies become increasingly visible at major fashion events. At the 2026 Met Gala, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos served as lead sponsors, while technology companies including Meta, OpenAI and Snapchat purchased tables reportedly priced at $350,000 each.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri and other technology executives were also among attendees. The event raised a record $42 million for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, according to reports.

Technology companies have also been experimenting more directly with fashion and merchandise. OpenAI and Palantir have released branded apparel, while Meta has increasingly positioned its smart glasses through fashion-focused advertising and partnerships.

San Francisco’s selection therefore places Vogue World in a city closely associated with the AI industry at a time when technology companies and their executives are taking a more visible role in fashion and culture.

Vogue World Continues Its City-Based Format

Vogue launched Vogue World in New York in 2022 as a public-facing event combining runway presentations, performances and other cultural programming. Subsequent editions have been designed around the identity of each host city rather than following a standard fashion-show format.

Vogue said the 2027 edition will similarly draw from San Francisco’s creative communities and history. More details about the venue, participating designers and programme are expected closer to the event.
