Google has added Venmo as a payment option on Google Play in the United States, allowing users to pay for apps, games, subscriptions, add-ons, and other digital content. The integration also lets customers use their Venmo balance or payment methods linked to their Venmo account, including bank accounts and cards.
Users can connect Venmo through the payment methods section of their Google Play account settings. Once linked, Venmo can also be used for transactions such as tipping creators within supported content-based apps.
The new option expands the payment methods already available through Google Play, which include PayPal, Cash App, and cards from American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and JCB in the US.
Google Expands Digital Payment Choices
Google announced the Venmo integration in an official Google Play post published on August 10. The company said the addition gives customers another way to pay for digital purchases using an account they may already use elsewhere.
Venmo, which is owned by PayPal, already supports checkout across thousands of apps and websites using either a Venmo balance or a linked payment method. PayPal also highlighted the Google Play integration through its newsroom following the launch.
Google has previously tested other payment approaches outside the US. These have included systems allowing customers in some markets to pay cash for digital purchases at participating physical stores.
Mobile App Spending Reached $167 Billion in 2025
The addition comes as consumers continue to spend more through mobile apps. Sensor Tower reported that global in-app purchase revenue across iOS and Google Play reached $167 billion in 2025, an increase of about 10% from the previous year.
Sensor Tower’s State of Mobile 2026 report also found that consumer spending on non-game apps surpassed spending on mobile games for the first time in 2025. Growth was supported by categories including generative AI, social media, video streaming, and productivity apps.
The Venmo option is currently focused on Google Play customers in the US. Google has not announced whether the payment method will become available through Play in additional markets.
