Warp Launches Factories to Help Companies Build AI Software Development Workflows

Warp has introduced Warp Factories, an infrastructure system designed to help companies build and operate AI-driven software development workflows without creating the underlying agent infrastructure themselves. The product organizes AI agents around common engineering stages such as triage, specification, implementation, review, and verification.

Warp announced Factories on Tuesday. The system is aimed in part at smaller companies that may not have the engineering resources to develop their own internal software factory architecture.

Warp CEO Zach Lloyd told TechCrunch that building this kind of system requires infrastructure for running and steering cloud agents, synchronizing their work with local environments, maintaining shared memory, and evaluating performance across agents.

Factories Automates Parts of the Development Process

Warp Factories comes with the basic architecture already configured, while allowing companies to decide which stages they want agents to handle. Any of the standard development phases can be automated, depending on how a team wants to structure its workflow.

The system supports multiple coding models and agent tools, including Codex and Claude Code. It also integrates with development and collaboration platforms such as Linear, Jira, Slack, and Microsoft Teams.

Some companies have already developed similar systems internally. Stripe, for example, built a Minions system to automate development tasks within its codebase, while Ramp created a background agent that can monitor its own code after deployment.

Warp is positioning Factories as an alternative for companies that want similar capabilities without building the supporting infrastructure from scratch.

Managers Can Track Agent Performance and Costs

Warp Factories also includes tools for measuring how different agent configurations perform. Because the agents operate within the same environment, teams can compare performance metrics and monitor overall token spending.

The system supports self-improvement loops that can adjust parts of the development process based on evaluation results. Warp says this can automate some of the management work involved in maintaining an agent-based engineering workflow.

Warp does not position Factories as a replacement for software engineers. Lloyd said Warp itself currently automates about 30% to 35% of its tasks each week, while other work still requires direct human involvement.

He expects that percentage to increase as AI models, context systems, and agent tooling improve. Warp Factories is designed to give engineering teams a common environment where human developers and automated agents can work through the same software development process.
