Intel to launch a developer-focused AI PC program with 300+ AI features in 2024

In a groundbreaking move that promises to redefine the landscape of artificial intelligence in personal computing, Intel has unveiled two new initiatives under its AI PC Acceleration Program. These initiatives mark a significant step forward in the company’s ongoing effort to enhance and expedite the integration of cutting-edge AI technologies into the broader ecosystem. Intel’s ambitious plan aims to leverage the collective strength of software developers, independent software vendors (ISVs), and independent hardware vendors (IHVs) to drive innovation and accessibility in AI-powered computing.

At the heart of Intel’s strategy is the enhancement of AI capabilities across an estimated 100 million PCs powered by Intel Core Ultra processors by the end of 2025. This vision is underpinned by a comprehensive program designed to provide developers with an integrated experience, combining advanced software, developer tools, and state-of-the-art hardware.

To date, Intel has established partnerships with over 150 hardware vendors worldwide. These collaborations are set to introduce more than 300 AI-accelerated features in 2024, spanning across over 230 designs from 12 leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Matt King, Senior Director of Client Hardware Ecosystem at Intel, expressed his enthusiasm for the program’s expansion. “We’re thrilled to extend our pioneering hardware and software solutions to engage our extensive, open ecosystem of developers,” he stated. This sentiment was echoed by Carla Rodriguez, Vice President and General Manager of Client Software Ecosystem Enabling at Intel. Rodriguez emphasized the program’s evolution to include a broader array of developers, stating, “With the addition of the AI PC Developer Program, we’re broadening our horizons to engage a wider spectrum of developers.”

The updated developer resource pages serve as a centralized hub for AI PC and client-centric toolkits, documentation, and training materials. These resources are meticulously curated to enable developers to efficiently harness the power of Intel Core Ultra processor technologies. This, in turn, optimizes the performance of AI and machine learning (ML) applications and accelerates the development of innovative use cases.

Developers interested in joining the AI PC Acceleration Program can sign up free of charge through the Intel AI PC development portal. Upon acceptance, they gain access to a vast array of AI and ML tools and resources, including the Intel OpenVINO toolkit. Additionally, Intel offers comprehensive courses and certifications to guide developers through the latest technologies and innovations, along with technical support for hardware vendors aiming to optimize and test their technologies.

Intel’s introduction of Core Ultra processors last year brought to the market a powerful built-in AI accelerator (NPU). This NPU is designed to efficiently handle sustained AI workloads while maintaining low power consumption, thus enhancing power efficiency and extending battery life in notebooks.

Furthermore, Intel’s GPU (Intel Arc) is optimized for handling data-intensive AI computations. In contrast, the CPU excels in processing sequential data, complex branching, or low-latency inference tasks. This triad of processing capabilities ensures that Intel Core Ultra processor-powered PCs are equipped to tackle a wide range of AI challenges.

Intel has also forged partnerships with industry giants such as Adobe, Blackmagic Design, and several top-tier game developers. These collaborations aim to refine and enhance their offerings, ensuring they fully leverage the capabilities of the latest Intel Core Ultra processor-powered PCs.

The AI PC Acceleration Program is a testament to Intel’s commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration in the realm of artificial intelligence. By uniting the expertise and creativity of developers, ISVs, and IHVs, Intel is setting the stage for a future where AI-powered personal computing is more accessible, efficient, and transformative than ever before.

Key Highlights of the AI PC Acceleration Program:
  • Objective: To enhance and accelerate the integration of AI technologies in personal computing.
  • Target: Optimizing AI capabilities in over 100 million Intel Core Ultra-powered PCs by the end of 2025.
  • Partnerships: Collaboration with over 150 hardware vendors and plans to introduce more than 300 AI-accelerated features in 2024.
Innovations and Resources:
  • Core Ultra Processors: Featuring a built-in AI accelerator (NPU) for efficient AI workloads management.
  • Developer Support: Free registration to the AI PC Acceleration Program, access to AI and ML tools, and comprehensive training resources.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Collaborations with leading software and game developers to enhance AI-powered applications.

This comprehensive approach not only underscores Intel’s role as a leader in advancing AI technologies but also highlights the company’s dedication to creating an open and collaborative ecosystem. Through these initiatives, Intel is not just paving the way for the next generation of AI-powered devices but is also empowering developers to bring their innovative visions to life.
