Cudio Shares Essential Industry Guidance Ahead of the SAP ECC 2027 Deadline

Cudio, a leading Odoo implementation and ERP consulting company, is sharing guidance for businesses preparing for SAP’s end of mainstream maintenance for SAP ECC 6.0 Enhancement Packages 6 through 8 on December 31, 2027.

With roughly 35,000 organizations worldwide running SAP ECC and Gartner projecting that nearly 17,000 will still be on the system when the deadline arrives, the transition has become one of the most consequential ERP events of the decade.

SAP confirmed in 2023 that there will be no further extensions to the end-of-mainstream-maintenance dates. The deadline splits into two groups based on Enhancement Package (EHP) version:

  • EHP 0-5 customers passed their mainstream maintenance deadline on December 31, 2025
  • EHP 6, 7, and 8 customers reach theirs on December 31, 2027.

After 2027, organizations running EHP 6-8 have three official paths from SAP. They can opt into Extended Maintenance from January 1, 2028 through December 31, 2030 at approximately 2 additional percentage points on top of existing maintenance fees, default into Customer-Specific Maintenance with reduced support scope (no legal or tax changes and restricted security patches), or apply for the SAP ERP, private edition, transition option, a RISE with SAP package announced in Q1 2025 that extends support for select, complex customers through 2033.

Cudio specializes in simplifying complex technology stacks and helping companies implement, configure, integrate, and optimize Odoo ERP systems. The company also advises organizations evaluating their broader ERP options ahead of major vendor transitions.

As Cudio, an Odoo Gold Partner, reviews what businesses are facing as the deadline approaches, the company highlights five technical and strategic considerations:

  • EHP 6 – 8 customers have until December 31, 2027, with Extended Maintenance available through 2030. EHP 0-5 customers have no extended maintenance and are already in reduced-scope Customer-Specific Maintenance, making their position more urgent.
  • The 2 percentage point premium covers continued security patches and legal/regulatory updates through 2030, but does not deliver new functionality. It buys time, not a long-term solution.
  • Brownfield converts ECC in place but carries technical debt forward. Greenfield rebuilds from scratch. Bluefield migrates only what matters. 86% of enterprises pick Brownfield or Hybrid.
  • Not every ECC business needs S/4HANA. Alternatives like Odoo can offer lower total cost of ownership and faster implementation, especially for mid-market and omnichannel companies.
  • Over 60% of SAP customers are still on ECC6, and complex migrations can take 30 to 42 months. Starting after mid-2026 means higher costs, fewer options, and a high risk of missing the deadline.

With over 30 years of technical experience, Cudio encourages businesses to begin assessing their EHP version, custom code footprint, and integration landscape well in advance of the deadline, regardless of which platform they ultimately choose.

Cudio provides end-to-end Odoo services, including implementation, migration, configuration, custom development, integrations, failed project rescue, and post-launch optimization. The company’s goal is to help businesses regain control of ERP projects and achieve measurable operational improvements.
