Jabees has launched the Peace Duo, an ultra-thin under-pillow speaker designed for people who listen to podcasts, music or sleep sounds in bed without wanting to wear earbuds. The device uses bone conduction technology to transmit sound through a pillow while keeping the audio relatively private.
The Peace Duo launched in June and is priced at $59.99, although Jabees currently lists it for $49.99. It is available in Sunrise Yellow and Mist Green.
Built-In Sounds Allow Phone-Free Listening
The speaker includes a 4GB microSD card containing four hours of preloaded sleep sounds. Users can choose between sea waves, light rain, rain with thunder and wind without connecting the device to a phone.
Bluetooth support is also included for people who prefer to stream audiobooks, podcasts, music or other audio from their devices. The Duo design separates the left and right speakers to provide stereo sound beneath the pillow.
Testing by TechCrunch found the device thin enough to remain largely unnoticed beneath a standard pillow. The reviewer also reported that the built-in soundscapes came through clearly when using a conventional cotton pillow.
Battery Supports Up to 10 Hours of Playback
Jabees says the Peace Duo can provide up to 10 hours of playback on one charge. That could equal about 10 nights when used for one hour at bedtime.
The foldable speaker uses a magnetic mechanism that powers the units on when separated and switches them off when they are snapped back together. It also comes with a fabric carrying case for storage and travel.
Jabees said in its official launch announcement that the new version was developed using feedback from owners of the original Peace Pillow Speaker. Updates include stereo separation, revised controls, stronger sound performance and interchangeable magnetic faceplates.
Thick Memory Foam Can Reduce Volume
Pillow material affects how clearly the device can be heard. Jabees says dense memory foam absorbs more sound and recommends positioning the speaker closer to the pillow’s edge or using a softer material if the volume is too low.
Users can also replace the standard magnetic faceplates with custom versions carrying photographs, artwork or other designs. Jabees sells personalised faceplates separately for $15.99 per pair.
The Peace Duo is primarily intended for side sleepers, couples and people who prefer nighttime audio without wearing headphones. It does not treat insomnia or other sleep disorders, but provides another way to listen privately while resting.
