Jakarta played host to the global unveiling of VISION.ev, an electric motorcycle fully designed and engineered in Indonesia. This event marks a major advancement towards sustainable transportation. The launch took place at the Sheraton Hotel Gandaria on July 16, 2024. Set for market release in 2025, VISION.ev aims to bolster Indonesia’s position in the global electric vehicle (EV) market.
IMOTO’s Commitment to Innovation and the Local Economy
IMOTO‘s latest creation, VISION.ev, showcases the company’s dedication to innovation and its commitment to strengthening the local economy. Aiming for over 75% domestic component use, this motorcycle highlights the capabilities of Indonesian engineering.
Antony Lesmana, Co-Founder of IMOTO, expressed his pride in the debut of the VISION.ev concept. “We hope that VISION.ev will accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global EV market. With the tagline ‘Made in Indonesia, for the World,’ VISION.ev reflects IMOTO’s commitment to promoting the nation’s innovations to the international market. From the bike design to the fast-charging battery, everything is made locally, so that we can achieve the target of at least 75% of Domestic Component Level (TKDN),” said Lesmana.

Indonesia faces severe pollution issues, especially in urban areas, where pollution cuts life expectancy by about 2.5 years. The transport sector is a major contributor to this crisis. However, a positive shift is underway, with EV adoption expected to rise by 80% over the next six years, potentially creating a market exceeding US$20 billion.
A survey by PwC revealed that half of the respondents plan to purchase electric motorcycles within the next one to three years. They are motivated by the environmental benefits, quieter operation, lower maintenance costs, and government incentives that EVs offer.
Doddy Lukito, another Co-Founder of IMOTO, emphasized VISION.ev’s potential to meet consumer needs effectively. “With the various advantages we offer in VISION.ev, we believe this environmentally friendly product will address key consumer concerns about EVs, such as fast charging, battery life, long-distance capability, and performance. This will help accelerate EV adoption. VISION.ev is also the answer for those seeking innovation and sustainability in their driving experience,” Lukito stated.
To facilitate usage, IMOTO is also developing a comprehensive fast-charging ecosystem. Public fast-charging stations will be installed at strategic points in cities and between cities, with 200 charging points planned in the initial phase of the rollout.
IMOTO’s commitment extends beyond manufacturing. The company aims to become a Zero-Carbon company by 2035. They plan to continue developing fast-charging battery technology and eco-friendly products. This initiative aligns with their goal to provide cost-effective, clean, and efficient mobility solutions for the people of Indonesia.
IMOTO’s efforts also support the domestic industry, create jobs, and nurture local talent. By promoting electric vehicles and building a supportive infrastructure, IMOTO is playing a crucial role in the transition to sustainable transportation in Indonesia.
