Unify Launches Tool to Help Developers Pick the Best LLM

Unify, a British startup founded by an Imperial College alum, is revolutionizing how developers select the most suitable large language models (LLMs) for specific tasks with its new router tool.

This innovation allows developers to input parameters and identify the optimal LLM based on factors like cost, speed, and accuracy. On Wednesday, May 22, Unify announced securing an $8 million investment to propel their technology forward.

How Does AI Power Unify’s Router Tool?

The router tool developed by Unify employs artificial intelligence to determine which LLMs perform best for various tasks. According to Daniel Lenton, founder and CEO of Unify, the tool utilizes objective benchmarks and comparative dashboards, enabling a streamlined selection process. “Our router itself is a learned neural network. It learns which models are best for doing which tasks,” Lenton explained. This is achieved by conducting extensive benchmarks on each new model, using GPT Pro to assess their performance across different training sets.

Lenton highlighted the rapid adaptability of their router, which can integrate new model providers within a day or two. This feature is crucial as it allows Unify to stay competitive and offer up-to-date solutions. The neutrality of Unify’s tool is a significant advantage over other market players, as many competitors are tied to specific hyperscalers, potentially biasing their recommendations.

What Sets Unify Apart from Its Competitors?

Despite existing competition from services like Martian Router, OpenRouter, and Portkey, Unify sets itself apart by optimizing for quality, cost, and speed simultaneously. This unique positioning has helped the company attract approximately 3,000 signups, with several hundred becoming regular users.

The company remains small, with only seven employees, but plans to expand by hiring three more staff members this year. Lenton’s strategy includes focusing on monetization through custom benchmarks, for which companies can initially engage with a $50 credit.

The recent funding round saw contributions from a variety of investors, including SignalFire, M12, J12, Essence VC, A. Capital, Lunar VC, Y Combinator, and several notable industry angels. These investments underscore the market’s confidence in Unify’s innovative approach to simplifying LLM deployments for developers globally.
