Apple’s iPhone 16 ‘Glowtime’ Event Scheduled for September 9

Apple is gearing up for its iPhone 16 event on September 9, marking one of the most anticipated dates in the tech industry’s fall calendar. The event, set to begin at 1 p.m. ET, will take place at the Steve Jobs Theater within Apple Park, Cupertino, California, and will be streamed live on Apple’s website and YouTube.

Media invites for the event feature the tagline “It’s Glowtime,” hinting at possible updates related to Apple’s Siri interface.

Anticipated Features of the iPhone 16 Lineup

The upcoming showcase is expected to introduce several new iPhone models and Apple Watch Series 10, along with possible updates to the AirPods lineup.

The iPhone 16 series is rumored to include:

  • Larger screens on the Pro models.
  • A redesigned camera layout, which may move from the traditional square to a vertical orientation.
  • A dedicated capture button featuring zoom gesture controls, designed for easier content creation in landscape mode.
  • The expansion of the Action Button, previously available only on the iPhone 15 Pro line, to the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models, replacing the mute switch.

While hardware updates might be more subdued this year, Apple is likely to emphasize its new software capabilities, particularly those related to artificial intelligence. The iPhone 16 series will run on upgraded chipsets to support Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI features designed for enhanced daily use, including message summarization and image generation. Although iOS 18 will be rolled out soon after the event, the more advanced Apple Intelligence features are expected to become publicly available with the release of iOS 18.1 in October.

Updates on Apple Watch Series 10 and AirPods

The Apple Watch Series 10 is anticipated to come with a larger display, potentially up to 49mm, and a new chip aimed at improving performance or power efficiency. Changes may also include a redesigned band system, which could mean older bands won’t be compatible with the new model.

In addition to the new iPhone and Apple Watch, there may be announcements regarding updated AirPods, including new entry-level and mid-tier AirPods 4, with only the latter supporting wireless charging for the case.
