Google introduces new and improved programs aimed at preparing Malaysian youth with AI-centric skills for the future.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – In a major announcement today, Google unveiled two groundbreaking initiatives aimed at propelling Malaysia towards a brighter digital future. These initiatives are aligned with the country’s MADANI Economy Framework, signaling a commitment to equipping Malaysian youth with the skills necessary for tomorrow and streamlining public services through advanced technology.

Google’s first initiative is a testament to its dedication to fostering digital literacy and competence among Malaysian youth. Collaborating with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Google aims to democratize access to cutting-edge education in critical tech domains such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, data analytics, and IT support.

These certificates, designed by industry experts at Google, promise a flexible, self-paced online learning pathway, accessible to all regardless of prior experience.

  • Expansion of Gemilang: This initiative builds on the success of Gemilang, a digital training program launched by Google in 2022. To date, Gemilang has awarded 31,000 scholarships, with 80% of recipients reporting positive career outcomes, including job placements and promotions.
  • Economic Impact: By bridging the digital talent gap, Google’s training programs are poised to unlock an estimated RM87.8 billion in economic value for Malaysia by 2030.
Revolutionizing Public Service Delivery

Google’s second initiative shifts focus towards enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of Malaysia’s public sector. This is to be achieved through the strategic deployment of Google Workspace for 445,000 public officers, in partnership with Jabatan Digital Negara.

Google Workspace integrates several AI-powered applications like Gmail, Chat, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Meet into a cohesive platform. This initiative promises to transform policy development, budget planning, and public consultation processes by enabling seamless collaboration, advanced information retrieval, and data-driven decision-making.

  • Enhanced collaboration and efficiency among public officers.
  • Advanced data protection and encryption ensuring secure communication.
  • AI-driven tools to streamline workflows and enhance productivity.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategic collaboration announced at the APEC Leaders’ Meeting in San Francisco, showcasing Malaysia’s commitment to digital advancement under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Karan Bhatia, Google’s Global Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy, emphasized the transformative potential of these initiatives, stating, “These initiatives have the potential to transform the way services are delivered for the benefit of all Malaysians while working to equip people with the digital skills they need.”

As Malaysia’s digital economy is projected to contribute over 25% to the nation’s GDP by 2025, the demand for skilled digital professionals is skyrocketing. Google’s latest initiatives are a step towards meeting this demand, ensuring that Malaysia remains at the forefront of digital innovation and competence.

In conclusion, Google’s strategic efforts in Malaysia underscore a significant investment in the country’s digital future. By empowering the youth with future-ready skills and enhancing public service delivery through technology, Google is helping to pave the way for a more inclusive, efficient, and innovative Malaysia.
