Apple has been edged out of the top five smartphone vendors in China during the second quarter, according to a report by Canalys. The tech giant’s market share shrank to 14%, a drop from 15% in the first quarter and 16% during the same period last year. This shift marks the first time in history that domestic brands have dominated all top five positions in the Chinese market.

Apple, which was the third-largest smartphone vendor in the same quarter last year, has now dropped to the sixth position with approximately 9.7 million units shipped. The decline in Apple’s shipments began in the first quarter when they fell 25% year-on-year to 10 million units. In contrast, Chinese brands like Vivo, Oppo, Honor, and Huawei have gained ground by focusing on high-end products and leveraging deep collaborations with local supply chains.
Overall, the Chinese smartphone market experienced a 10% year-on-year growth in the second quarter, with shipments surpassing 70 million units.
