ByteDance has introduced Jimeng AI, a text-to-video application, expanding its presence in the AI video generation market. This move places ByteDance alongside other Chinese tech firms and OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, in this emerging sector. OpenAI’s Sora model, unveiled in February, remains inaccessible to the public. However, Chinese companies have rapidly advanced, launching similar models for user access.
Jimeng AI, developed by ByteDance’s subsidiary Faceu Technology, is now available on the Apple App Store in China, following its Android release on July 31. This addition follows a series of text-to-video model launches in China, including those by Kuaishou, Zhipu AI, and Shengshu. Kuaishou’s Kling AI model became globally accessible last month, requiring only an email for registration. Zhipu AI introduced its Ying model, and shortly after, Shengshu launched its Vidu app.
Operating under ByteDance’s Jianying business, known for the CapCut video editing app, Jimeng AI offers subscription plans. Users can choose from a monthly plan at 69 yuan ($9.65), a single month at 79 yuan, or an annual plan at 659 yuan. These plans allow users to create up to 2,050 images or 168 AI videos monthly.
