Elon Musk and Donald Trump are set for a live conversation on X’s Spaces this Monday, August 12, 2024, at 5 PM PT/8 PM ET. The interview, announced by Trump on Truth Social and by Musk on X (formerly Twitter), will be hosted on Trump’s official X account, @realDonaldTrump.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of X, mentioned in a post that he would conduct system scaling tests ahead of the event. He added, “This is unscripted with no limits on subject matter, so should be highly entertaining! If you have specific questions & comments, post them under the chat.” No further details about the interview have been disclosed.
The announcement follows Musk’s public endorsement of Trump, who is the Republican candidate for the upcoming U.S. presidential election. This endorsement came after an assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, last month. In response, Trump has expressed support for electric vehicles, a key focus of Musk’s business ventures. During a rally in Georgia over the weekend, Trump stated, “I’m for electric cars. I have to be because, you know, Elon endorsed me very strongly. So I have no choice.”
This stance marks a shift from Trump’s previous criticisms of electric vehicle regulations under the Biden administration, which aims to have half of all new vehicle sales be electric by the end of the decade.
Adding to the developments, on August 5, 2024, Trump received a Tesla Cybertruck from controversial streamer Adin Ross. The vehicle was customized with an image of the assassination attempt and the “Make America Great Again” slogan.
Trump, who was previously banned from X after the January 6, 2021, insurrection, was reinstated by Musk after his acquisition of the platform in 2022. Since his ban, Trump founded his social media platform, Truth Social, where he remains the majority shareholder.
