Robotics Breakthrough as Unitree Launches G1 Humanoid Robot for Homes

Unitree Robotics has launched the G1, a new humanoid robot priced at $16,000, aiming to make advanced robotics more accessible for household use. Known for offering affordable alternatives to high-cost robotic models, the Chinese company is ready to mass-produce the G1, a compact yet powerful bot capable of performing various tasks.

Unitree’s strategy of undercutting competitors is evident with the G1, similar to their approach with the Unitree Go2, which rivals Boston Dynamics’ Spot but costs significantly less. Standing at 4 feet 3 inches and weighing 80 pounds, the G1 offers impressive capabilities. It can walk at speeds up to 4.5 mph, jump, climb stairs, perform full-body spins, and even execute gymnastic moves. With 23 degrees of freedom in its joints, the G1 showcases remarkable agility and balance, as demonstrated in promotional videos where it maintains stability even when pushed.

Equipped with sensors for autonomous navigation and voice command response, the G1 can assist with household chores. Higher-end models feature articulated hands capable of grasping and manipulating objects, even performing delicate tasks such as soldering electronics. The G1 also incorporates advanced learning capabilities, allowing it to acquire new skills through imitation and reinforcement learning, potentially handling tasks like cooking, cleaning, and laundry.

The robot’s face includes 3D lidar and depth cameras for vision, along with a microphone array for voice control. A 9000mAh battery provides up to two hours of use, and its joints deliver an output of 88 lb-ft of torque, comparable to the force of a small car. While pricing details for advanced models are not yet available, interested buyers can contact Unitree sales for more information.
