Nintendo Stops Repairing New 3DS as Parts Run Out

Nintendo has officially stopped offering repairs for the New Nintendo 3DS due to a shortage of parts. This development, announced by the company’s Japanese support team, means that users of the decade-old handheld console can no longer rely on Nintendo for repairs. The discontinuation of repair services was attributed to the depletion of necessary replacement components.

The situation is not limited to the New 3DS. Nintendo has indicated that repair services for other models, including the Nintendo 2DS and the New Nintendo 3DS XL (known as the LL in Japan), will also end once the remaining stock of parts is exhausted. This move follows Nintendo’s decision to cease manufacturing the entire 3DS product line back in 2020.

Despite its age, the 3DS series was a significant part of Nintendo’s product lineup, with the New 3DS and New 3DS XL shipping 9.94 million units globally by the end of 2016, and total sales of the 3DS family reaching 75.94 million units by 2020.

Currently, customers in the US can still access Nintendo’s repair services for late-model 3DS XL consoles. For those owning the New 3DS and facing repair needs, third-party options like iFixit provide alternative solutions. iFixit offers a range of replacement parts and repair guides through its online platform. However, given the age of these devices, users are advised to handle them with extra care to avoid the need for repairs, as availability of parts and services continues to dwindle.
