OpenAI acquired presentation startup NextSlide earlier this year, with the startup’s team now working on ChatGPT. Founder Ahmed Beshry disclosed the acquisition publicly several months after it took place, while financial terms were not revealed.
NextSlide built an AI product that could turn prompts, notes, documents and research into polished, editable presentations. According to the company’s official announcement, the team wanted to make visual communication more accessible and help people communicate ideas without requiring the same level of presentation-design experience.
Beshry said joining OpenAI would allow the team to continue working toward that goal by developing AI products that help people create, communicate and turn ideas into usable work. NextSlide’s website now states that its team is at OpenAI and helping build ChatGPT.
Acquisition Happened Earlier This Year
Beshry said in a LinkedIn post that the announcement had arrived “a few months late” because OpenAI acquired NextSlide earlier in 2026. He also confirmed that he now works on product at OpenAI, helping develop ChatGPT.
Neither OpenAI nor NextSlide disclosed how much OpenAI paid for the company. The companies have also not publicly detailed how NextSlide’s presentation technology will be incorporated into ChatGPT or whether its former product will reappear as a feature within the service.
NextSlide no longer operates as a standalone presentation product, with its website instead displaying Beshry’s note about the acquisition. The size of the team that joined OpenAI has not been disclosed.
Beshry Previously Co-Founded Caper AI
NextSlide was not Beshry’s first startup acquisition. He previously co-founded Caper AI, which developed smart shopping carts and cashierless checkout technology.
Instacart acquired Caper AI for approximately $350 million in 2021. Beshry later founded NextSlide before joining OpenAI following the startup’s acquisition earlier this year.
The NextSlide team is now focused on ChatGPT, according to both Beshry and the company’s website. Neither side has announced a separate timeline for presentation-related features resulting from the acquisition.
