Can you imagine the feeling when someone is shouting at the top of their voice to make you hear something? Will, feel disabled in some way? Yes, you will and anybody would feel the same. This COVID-19 pandemic has given us a lot to learn and analyze the mistakes we have been doing in our so-called modern technologically advanced lives.

But we forget the very fact that whatever we do today comes back at us with the same pace in the future. Like the coronavirus, as we never invited it, we have to suffer its consequences due to our mistakes that we did knowingly or unknowingly.

How are some specific people getting affected by the pandemic?

We all have been affected by this pandemic in some way or another but the worst hit is the elder people. They have a high risk of developing dangerous symptoms after contracting coronavirus. Now, they face even more issues than before as the masks that we all have to wear every day are making our life tougher day by day. Normally, old-aged people have a hard time listening to everything, but the masks that have become necessary for us have made the listening process for those elder people more complex and tougher.

The sound barriers are something that avoids someone from reaching out to someone. Like the way, these masks have become a sound barrier for us. The elder people who have a high listening pitch try to identify the person’s words in front of them by reading their lips. They get a rough idea about what the person in front of them is saying and try to fill in the gaps. In this manner, they try to understand the things that are being said to them.

Older adults have a hard time hearing because of the masks, but why?

The reason is simple, as they cannot see the other person’s emotions and lips and what they are speaking, which helps them judge the lines which are being said to them when they are wearing their masks. Hence it makes it quite evident that masks are acting as a huge barrier for them.

Even medical specialists have admitted this very fact that many older adults have come to their clinics to report the high-intensity hearing that they have developed recently during this pandemic period. Although the practitioners tell them that they are wrong in assuming that they have developed this during this pandemic, they were having this particular problem for about seven years before this period taking an average of every particular case which came to them. The masks even block the normal voice pitch and make it feebler for them to listen and understand.

So, all in all, it’s quite evident that older people are suffering from huge problems during this pandemic period and also that how much do they ignore their physical ailments in the regular problems of their lives as well as their physicality.
