Apple Intelligence Delayed to October with iOS 18.1 Update

Apple’s upcoming artificial intelligence feature set, known as Apple Intelligence, is facing delays and will not be available with the initial release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 in September.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant plans to introduce these features with the iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 updates, expected to be released in October. The first betas of these updates, featuring some of the AI capabilities, are slated to be available for developers to test as early as this week.

The Apple Intelligence features, designed to enhance the functionality of iPhones and iPads, include advanced AI-powered tools capable of generating text, images, and other content on command. However, not all features will be available immediately. For example, improvements to the AI-powered Siri may not be included in the initial rollout and could extend into next year.

Furthermore, these advanced features will only be compatible with devices equipped with Apple’s latest hardware, specifically the A17 Pro processor or M-series chips, which include:

  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPad and Mac models with M1 chips or later

The delay in releasing these AI features is also partly due to compliance with new European Union regulations, which require ensuring that rival products and services can function seamlessly with Apple’s devices. This regulatory requirement has reportedly led to the postponement of three new AI features that Apple planned to launch earlier.

In June, Apple emphasized its commitment to advancing AI technologies by announcing a range of new features and software enhancements across its device lineup, aimed at boosting sagging sales.

However, the company has yet to comment on the specific reasons for the delay or the exact timeline for the full rollout of Apple Intelligence.
