Views To Become Key Performance Metric for All Content on Instagram

Instagram is set to make “views” the primary metric across all its content formats, including Reels, Stories, photos, and more.

This update aims to simplify performance tracking for creators, regardless of content type. The rollout will occur in the coming weeks, as announced on Instagram’s creators account.

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri explained in a post that previously, different metrics were displayed for Reels compared to other posts. The platform intends to unify these metrics for a clearer understanding of content performance. In an accompanying video, Mosseri noted that a view differs from reach since the same person can view a piece of content multiple times.

Although views will become the primary metric, Mosseri advised creators to also monitor “sends per reach.” He emphasized that both metrics are crucial for assessing content performance on Instagram.

Additionally, Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has emphasized the importance of views on Threads. Earlier this year, it introduced a feature allowing users to see the total view count of a Threads post.
