Google is rolling out a new Video Remix feature in Google Photos that lets users transform videos in seconds with generative AI. The tool is powered by Gemini Omni, Google’s new multimodal model for creating and editing video from different types of input.
Video Remix is available from the Create tab in Google Photos. Users can apply cinematic relighting, replace backgrounds or add artistic styles such as watercolor, raw sketchbook and oil painting effects.
The feature is meant to make video editing easier for everyday users. Google said creating polished video clips should not require professional skills or hours of editing.
Gemini Omni Powers the New Tool
Gemini Omni is Google’s new model designed to create video from text, images, audio and existing video. The company describes it as a system that can create anything from any input, starting with video.
In Google Photos, that means users can take an ordinary clip and quickly rework its look or setting. Google’s examples include making a video look as if it was shot in a greenhouse, adding a morning glow or turning a clip into a watercolor-style video.
The launch extends Google’s effort to bring more generative AI tools into consumer apps. Instead of requiring dedicated editing software, Google is placing AI editing directly inside Photos, one of its most widely used services.
The move also keeps Google in competition with Apple, OpenAI and Adobe, all of which are expanding AI-powered image and video tools. For Google, adding Video Remix to Photos gives users another reason to stay inside its app ecosystem.
Rollout Starts for Paid AI Subscribers
Video Remix starts rolling out to eligible Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers. The first countries include the U.S., Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Turkey.
The feature follows other AI updates in Google Photos. Google recently added touch-up tools for subtle fixes such as removing blemishes, refining skin texture, brightening eyes and whitening teeth.
It also introduced a wardrobe feature that turns photos of clothing into a digital closet, allowing users to create outfit ideas and virtually try on looks. Together, the updates show how Google is turning Photos from a storage and search app into a broader AI creation tool.
Video Remix is still part of that larger shift. The feature gives users faster ways to restyle personal videos, while also bringing Google’s newest AI video model into a familiar consumer product.
